Literary Lunch in Manhattan: Paris to the Pyrenees at La Boite en Bois

Paris to the Pyrenees: Literary Lunch in Manhattan

Please join renowned and affable photographer Alison Harris and yours truly, the diamond-spangled curmudgeon, David Downie (if you didn’t know already) for a fun and delicious literary lunch in Manhattan on April 23, 2013.

La Boite en Bois, the longtime French gourmet restaurant near Lincoln Center, will host the gala event. We’ll be signing copies of Paris to the Pyrenees, meeting & greeting intrepid travelers, chatting, supping, etc…

The (modest) price of the (wonderful) lunch includes a newly minted, pristine copy of Paris to the Pyrenees—remember it’s a highest-quality hardback with 32 pages of color photos by Alison—and a brief reading pour vous mettre en appétit, as our French friends might say. I suppose, “To whet your appetite for reading and eating” would be an acceptable transliteration.

Details, details!

When: April 23, 2013

What: Literary lunch

What time: noon

Where: La Boite en Bois
75 West 68th Street, New York, NY 10023

To reserve: please email Angela Barbuti (the owner’s daughter, in charge of this event): laboitenyc@laboitenyc.com

(NB: if you can, use email and avoid phoning to reserve: the restaurant is small and busy, and the staff prefers to do things this way, merci!)

What’s really on the menu?

Says Angela: “Everyone buys a ticket which includes lunch (drinks not included) and a copy of the book. David reads an excerpt and discusses the book for 20 minutes and then after lunch, he signs the books.”

Alimentary, dear Angela! However, I bet Alison will also gladly add a signature to your personalized copy. Her 32 pages of the book feature about 100 photos. Ask Google if you don’t believe me: 100 @ 1,000 words per photo = 100,000 words’ worth (Wordsworth?) of pictures. So, we’re about even. It is a book of words, but the illustrations are too gorgeous for words…

For those interested primarily in the alimentary angle, here’s the actual prandial line up:

Main Course

Salade Nicoise with Seared Salmon

Mushroom Ravioli in a Light Mushroom Sauce

Beef Bourguignon

Seafood Crepe

Dessert

Medley of Crème Brulee, Chocolate Mousse, and Mixed Berries

The price: $39.50 (drinks not included)
