Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo and I don't always see eye to eye but on one thing we agree: get private cars out of Paris. The centerpiece of her plan is the Seine-side Right Bank Expressway, aka voie Pompidou, now a park. I and many thousands of other denizens use the park daily: it has become the Paris counterpart to the reservoir-run in NYC's Central Park.
The latest improvement: cafes, snack bars, and guinguette-style restaurants on barges and on the shoulders of the former expressway.
A Seine-sational spot to sip a cafe when in Paris… on the former expressway… gives a new spin to the meaning of "expresso"…
Even the babies are super-charged and over-caffeinated…
And there are plenty of places to have a ball (a boule I meant to say–those are petanque courts on right of frame).
I can't rave about the excellence of the fare or the beverages but the location and atmosphere are hard to beat, especially in perfect spring weather.
For the cash strapped there's free water on tap!
This is yet another wonderfully vernacular way to enjoy A Taste of Paris… and feed your hungry eye (I?)…
